The classes of Romanian as a foreign language are organised at Transilvania University of Braşov by the Faculty of Letters and so far students from Europe, North and South America, as well as from Asia have learned Romanian. The study programme is structured into intensive practical courses as well as courses on Romanian culture and civilization, and it addresses both people who want to study at Bachelor level and those who want to attend a Master’s programme.
“When we decided to set up the preparatory year for foreign students, we took into account three opportunities. The first was rather an observation regarding the geographical disposition of similar programmes. In the central part of the country, especially at a prestigious university such as Transilvania University of Brașov, such a programme did not exist. The second opportunity consisted in the fact that many foreign students opt for the study programmes that our university offers as they can choose from a wide range of programmes from faculties pertaining to various domains. Therefore, we definitely had to seize this opportunity. Why should students attend the preparatory year in areas that are very remote from the university that they enroll in? The third opportunity was that we have many colleagues from the Faculty of Letters with outstanding skills in teaching Romanian as a foreign language. We can, therefore, benefit from their experience and abilities especially because some of them have even attended training courses in Romania and abroad.” [Associate professor Ana ENE (Ph.D.)]
